ποΈ On 7th October 2024, the historic Ignacy Mine in Rybnik, Poland, won in the Conservation and Adaptive Reuse category. πποΈ This incredible site, founded in 1792 and one of Poland’s oldest coal mines, has been transformed into a vibrant cultural and recreational center thanks to the efforts of former miners, the city of Rybnik, and support from Polish and EU funds. π¨ποΈ Restoration began in 2018, focusing on preserving the main complex and its equipment, now home to an interactive exhibition that explores Europe’s industrial history! ππ§

The European Heritage Awards, launched in 2002, celebrate the best examples of cultural heritage conservation, helping raise awareness about Europe’s rich history and inspire future projects! π
