🏛️The Silesian Museum in Katowice (Poland), a cultural centre located on the site of a former mine, is a cultural showcase of city and a symbol of positive transformation of post-industrial areas.
💧January 13th 2025, a Letter of Intent (LOI) was signed at the Museum, regarding cooperation in the use of mine water energy for the needs of the Museum. This idea combines modern ecological solutions with the mining heritage of the Silesian region. It will not only reduce the costs of operating cultural institution, but also contribute to sustainable development activities.
Thanks to the cooperation of the LOI partners: GIG-PIB, the Institute of Mineral and Energy Economy of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Mine Restructuring Company, the pumped mine water will become a modern and ecological source of heat for the Silesian Museum. The letter was signed in the presence of the Deputy Marshal of the Silesian Voivodeship, Leszek Pietraszek.🌍
The initiative contributes to the vision of “life after life” for mining assets, which now will gain a new ecological application. On the same day, a debate Cities of Ideas” was also held. It brings vivid discussion on the future of post-mining areas and the role of preserving mining heritage for the future of local communities. Raising awareness of this problem, through projects such as Coal Heritage, is important for this process.💚
