The Industrial Gas Museum

The Industrial Gas Museum is housed in the old gas plant in Athens and the remains consist of buildings, machinery, warehouses and stores, typical places where energy was generated, transmitted and used. The Museum’s doors opened in 2013 aiming to raise public awareness on industrial history, further social inclusion and promote inclusive education for schools and individuals through educational programs.

The Industrial Gas Museum is the best-preserved gas plant in Europe and the only one maintaining all its mechanical equipment in situ. It is a typical example of 19th and 20th-century industrial architecture. The Museum is part of the European Route of Industrial Heritage and aims to showcase and protect the old Athens Gasworks, which provided the city with energy and lighting with the production of gas from coal.
