Mining Conference in Cracow

During mining conference School of Underground Mining #SEP2024 in Cracow, Poland presentation on Coal Heritage project has been given.

Conference School of Underground Mining, SEP is one of the largest and the most important conference in Polish mining. This year it gathers 360 participants, authors and guests, including board members of biggest polish mining enterprises.

The Coal Heritage presentation discussed the concept of intangible heritage in the Polish hard coal mining industry, along with the preservation of cultural heritage the Polish Mining Group #PolskaGrupaGórnicza, marching band case study.

The organized musical movement and the custom of making music in the miners’ #marchingband in Silesia dates back to the second half of the 19th century. Miners’ orchestras are an important element of #SaintBarbara‘s Day traditions, which have become a permanent element of the landscape of #UpperSilesia. Their contribution to regional and national culture is a musical and visual phenomenon. As a result, on March 3, 2023, by the decision of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage, the “Cultural Traditions of Mining Marching Bands from Upper Silesia” were entered into the National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage.
